Behind Dark Matter

Watching a TV program that mentioned dark matter in some little detail I could not get my head around how could, as some theorists claim, 63 percent of the entire matter in the universe be dark and not visible and despite making up the majority of matter, be invisible and influencing the balance of the universe?

Theoretical Physicists are not the only ones who can have fun postulating theories as to the origins and current construction of the physical universe. I had some time on my hands over the holiday period so as an exercise in an effort to understand this apparent discrepancy I decided to find out exactly what dark matter was.

I think I found it.

Current Theories surrounding the formation, construction and effects of Dark Matter

Dark MatterThe original concept of Dark Matter was first formulated by one Jan Oort in 1932 in an effort to account for the orbital velocities of stars in the Milky Way, the galaxy in which we reside. Fritz Zwicky, noted physicist used the viral theorem (The virial theorem states that, for a stable, self-gravitating, spherical distribution of equal mass objects (stars, galaxies, etc), the total kinetic energy of the objects is equal to minus 1/2 times the total gravitational potential energy. In other words, the potential energy must equal the kinetic energy, within a factor of two) to allude to the existence of an unseen matter or something which he referred to as dunkle Materie or Dark Matter. Later physicists took up the challenge to find evidence including Horace Babcock, Vera Rubin and Kent Ford and others. The existence of Dark Matter is now generally accepted by the mainstream scientific community although there are variations and alternative theories, too many and too complex to discuss here and which do not really pertain to the main premise outlined below.

Suffice to say that the general consensus is that Dark Matter is composed mostly of subatomic particles and the search for this particle is the major efforts being undertaken in particle physics today.

Interestingly what if these particles were right under everyone's nose? But we will come to that later.

Dark Matter then is considered to exist by inference from the apparent effects it causes in the universe. Namely discrepancies discovered between the mass of large astronomical objects determined from their gravitational effects, and their mass as calculated from the observable matter (stars, gas, and dust) that they can be seen to contain. Their gravitational effects suggest that their masses are much greater than the observable matter survey suggests. In other words, a hidden mass not visible but which has sufficient gravitational influence as can create effects that are observable. This is what is proposed to be Dark Matter.

A New Theory about Dark Matter

It is all well and good saying that, well there is this Dark Matter see, and it pervades the universe, see, and it forms either 63 percent of the mass of the universe or 63 percent of the dark energy of the universe see. But that does not explain WHAT it is and why it is there. This is an area that has the most speculation and theories and there is no one general agreement that answers these points. The illustration shows that there are at least two schools of thought as to the construction of Dark Matter or Dark Energy.

According to Wikipedia,
"Dark matter's existence is inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter and gravitational lensing of background radiation, and was originally hypothesized to account for discrepancies between calculations of the mass of galaxies, clusters of galaxies and the entire universe made through dynamical and general relativistic means, and calculations based on the mass of the visible "luminous" matter these objects contain: stars and the gas and dust of the interstellar and intergalactic medium.

The most widely accepted explanation for these phenomena is that dark matter exists and that it is most probably composed of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) that interact only through gravity and the weak force. Alternative explanations have been proposed, and there is not yet sufficient experimental evidence to determine whether any of them are correct. Many experiments to detect proposed dark matter particles through non-gravitational means are under way.

One other theory suggests the existence of a "Hidden Valley", a parallel world made of dark matter having very little in common with matter we know,[15] and that could only interact with our visible universe through gravity.

According to observations of structures larger than star systems, as well as Big Bang cosmology interpreted under the Friedmann equations and the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric, dark matter accounts for 26.8% of the mass-energy content of the observable universe. In comparison, ordinary (baryonic) matter accounts for only 4.9% of the mass-energy content of the observable universe, with the remainder being attributable to dark energy.[18] From these figures, matter accounts for 31.7% of the mass-energy content of the universe, and 84.5% of the matter is dark matter.

Dark matter plays a central role in state-of-the-art modeling of cosmic structure formation and galaxy formation and evolution and has measurable effects on the anisotropies observed in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). All these lines of evidence suggest that galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and the universe as a whole contain far more matter than that which is easily visible with electromagnetic radiation.

Though the theory of dark matter remains the most widely accepted theory to explain the anomalies in observed galactic rotation, some alternative theoretical approaches have been developed which broadly fall into the categories of modified gravitational laws and quantum gravitational laws."

So it is still somewhat of a moot point and largely theoretical and likely to remain so until some hard evidence emerges to demonstrate the actuality of Dark Matter.

Possibilities concerning the origination and construction of Dark Matter

Having read up on the subject I considered the main point that everyone seems to agree upon. Dark Matter is a hidden influence on the universe. Taking that I then looked at some of the basic axioms of Scientology that L. Ron Hubbard proposed with regard to the physical universe and its construction and his approach to the construction of the human mind and the light then began to shine on Dark Matter.

I looked at and considered The Axioms of Dianetics and Scientology.

Specifically the first 11 axioms of Scientology:

AXIOM 1. LIFE IS BASICALLY A STATIC
Definition: a Life Static has no mass, no motion, no wavelength, no location in space or in time. It has the ability to postulate and to perceive.

AXIOM 2. THE STATIC IS CAPABLE OF CONSIDERATIONS, POSTULATES, AND OPINIONS

AXIOM 3. SPACE, ENERGY, OBJECTS, FORM AND TIME ARE THE RESULT OF CONSIDERATIONS MADE AND/OR AGREED UPON OR NOT BY THE STATIC, AND ARE PERCEIVED SOLELY BECAUSE THE STATIC CONSIDERS THAT IT CAN PERCEIVE THEM

AXIOM 4. SPACE IS A VIEWPOINT OF DIMENSION

AXIOM 5. ENERGY CONSISTS OF POSTULATED PARTICLES IN SPACE

AXIOM 6. OBJECTS CONSIST OF GROUPED PARTICLES AND SOLIDS

AXIOM 7. TIME IS BASICALLY A POSTULATE THAT SPACE AND PARTICLES WILL PERSIST

AXIOM 8. THE APPARENCY OF TIME IS THE CHANGE OF POSITION OF PARTICLES IN SPACE

AXIOM 9. CHANGE IS THE PRIMARY MANIFESTATION OF TIME

AXIOM 10. THE HIGHEST PURPOSE IN THIS UNIVERSE IS THE CREATION OF AN EFFECT

AXIOM 11. THE CONSIDERATIONS RESULTING IN CONDITIONS OF EXISTENCE ARE FOUR-FOLD

(a) AS-IS-NESS is the condition of immediate creation persistence, and is the condition of existence which exists at the moment of creation and the moment of destruction, and is different from other considerations in that it does not contain survival
(b) ALTER-IS-NESS is the consideration which introduces change and therefore time and persistence, into an AS-IS-NESS to obtain persistency
(c) IS-NESS is an apparency of existence brought about by the continuous alteration of an AS-IS-NESS. This is called, when agreed upon, Reality
(d) NOT-IS-NESS is the effort to handle IS-NESS by reducing its condition through the use of force. It is an apparency and cannot entirely vanquish an IS-NESS.

The construction of the mind
According to LRH the mind is composed of mental images compulsively created on an unconscious level.

"The mental image picture collection of the pc" HCOB 30 Apr 69.

"Merely a combination of energy and significance and this comprises a mass that sits there in its own made up space, and it's plotted against the pc's experiential track known as time." (SH Spec 65, 6507C27)

"Goals Problem Mass (GPM). ... If you took two fire hoses and pointed them at each other, their streams would not reach each other's nozzles, but would splatter against one another in mid-air. If this splatter were to hang there, it would be a ball of messed up water. Call hose A the force the pc has used to execute his goal. Call hose B the force other dynamics have used to oppose that goal. Where these two forces have perpetually met, a mental mass is created. This is the picture of any problem-force opposing force with resultant mass. Where the pc's goal meets constant opposition, you have in the reactive mind the resultant mass caused by the two forces - Goal=force of getting it done, Opposition=force opposing it getting done. This is the goal problem mass. (HCOB 20 Nov 61)"

Variations in density of dark matter in the universe

According to Freeman, K.; McNamara, G. (2006). In Search of Dark Matter. Birkhãuser. p. 37. ISBN 0-387-27616-5. "Much of the evidence for dark matter comes from the study of the motions of galaxies. Many of these appear to be fairly uniform, so by the virial theorem, the total kinetic energy should be half the total gravitational binding energy of the galaxies. Observationally, however, the total kinetic energy is found to be much greater. In particular, assuming the gravitational mass is due to only the visible matter of the galaxy, stars far from the center of galaxies which have a much higher velocity than are predicted by the virial theorem. Galactic rotation curves, which illustrate the velocity of rotation versus the distance from the galactic center, show the well-known phenomenology that cannot be explained by the presence of the visible matter only. Assuming that the visible material makes up only a small part of the clusters mass is the most straightforward way of accounting for this discrepancy."

It could also be pointed out that there are quite likely variations throughout the universe of clusters of beings where in some areas there are more beings than in others. In addition some areas may contain beings with considerably less mental mass while others may contain beings with greater mental mass. We are talking in the billions here so although we acknowledged that the amount of mental mass one individual may have is not particularly large, groups of billions may have very significant amounts of mental mass, perhaps sufficient to cause effects upon their sector of the universe. When you consider that all beings have a composition of billions of pictures (not all reactive or engramic of course) being taken compulsively on an unconscious level at a rate of 52 per second one can see that this is going to mount up over time.

"Although dark matter had historically been inferred from many astronomical observations, its composition long remained speculative." Dark Matter, Wikipedia.

One individual does not have a large quantity of mental mass in the greater scheme of things. However, untold billions to the power of billions would represent a significant quantity of mental mass spread throughout the universe and the Law of Plenty, found all around us and throughout the universe would illustrate this. As time marches on the accumulation of experience and hence mental image pictures of all beings progressively increase. It is unknown exactly how many beings there would be in the universe but observing how life on this planet is so prolific and taking into consideration, as many can attest as a historical fact from their own past track, life is correspondingly prolific throughout the universe, it would seem that the quantity of mental mass would be significant.

Professor Brian Schmidt, noted Physicist and Nobel Prize Winner once stated, "Dark energy has the property, that the bigger the universe becomes the more dark energy we will have."

Potential Conclusions

It can be shown then that this metal mass is just as prolific and being largely unknown by the owners and so continue to persist and, indeed grow through time and continual experiences adding to it, would have an increasing effect on the MEST universe and it is remarkable that the tremendous amount of effort that is going into discovering the composition of Dark Matter could be resolved by a tongue in cheek look under one's nose and one could say that this influence called by theoretical physicists as Dark Matter is, in fact, the accumulation of mental energy continuously created by the untold billions of beings in the Universe, or in short Bank.
